Welcome to the Pushing Buttons Newsletter

Living in rural Quebec has all kinds of benefits, but it’s not exactly a mecca for sewists. When I started sewing again a few years ago, I discovered that the charming button shops of Paris, London and Sydney are, well, in Paris, London and Sydney. The online experience was a mess – small selections tacked onto fabric shops, terrible photos, outrageous shipping costs for a few tiny buttons.

So I built the store I wanted to shop in: a curated collection of buttons worthy of your work. I’ve focused on buttons from renewable and biodegradable sources – natural horn, mother of pearl, corozo, and casein – together with high-quality metal and plastic/resin buttons.

If I wouldn’t use it myself, I won’t sell it to you. These are the kind of buttons to swoon over, that make your garment special – delivered to your mailbox.

Choosing buttons online can be hard. You can't feel the weight, hold them against your fabric, or test how the light catches them. That's why I'm here to help. If you're stuck on a project or unsure what would work, hit reply and tell me about it. I read every message and love talking through button decisions – it's genuinely one of my favourite parts of running this shop.

You'll hear from me about once a month with tips on choosing and using beautiful buttons, and how to perfect the dreaded buttonhole. No inbox-clogging, I promise.

I'm Cheryl, and I'm so glad you found me and Curated Buttons.
